Brook Park School of Environment Studies

At Brook Park School of Environmental Studies, students develop a love and respect for nature as they become strong readers and writers. Students work individually and in small groups to develop problem- solving skills. Hands-on projects that encourage the use of technology and scientific learning tools like microscopes and beakers help to foster children’s natural curiosity.

The school is home to an outdoor learning laboratory that allows children to study and care for chickens
and rabbits. There are also a pond ecosystem and a greenhouse on campus. Snakes, bearded dragons and other creatures reside in classrooms, allowing students a close-up look at how animals live in a variety of environments.

All grade levels utilize a Core Curriculum based on Indiana State Standards, taught in all Lawrence Township Schools. The Readers and Writers Workshop approach is used in Language Arts, Balanced Math, Science, Social Studies, and Social Skills & Community Building

• Identified by Magnet Schools of America as a national Magnet School of Distinction
• Students develop and maintain a pond and multiple gardens, including an American Heart Association Teaching Garden, and courtyard
• An annual environmental fair serves as a culminating event where students showcase the many things they have learned over the course of the school year
• An on-site Jane Pauley Community Health Center serves the local community, regardless of insurance or income, with an emphasis on integrating medical and behavioral health along with access to various other social services.
